Well, almost all european language is derived from latin, so that would probably be because the romans came first, but english is derived from both greek and latin so we kinda have a mongrel language.

He is obviously refering to the many city-states of Greece such as Athenas and Sparta, the country of Greece did come after Rome. As a proof you just need to remember that romans stole and renamed the Greek gods.

Latin does not come from Greek. They are two separate and distinct languages. And ancient Greece was never a country. The term Ancient Greece refers to the multitude of city states that were around the Adriatic Sea and surrounding areas at that time.
