Just use the size on gimp that fits your texture item.

Front- The fist
Bottom- Where the palm would go
Back is where you make it go up to the wrist
and top is where you would add the top part going into the knuckles.
The out side would be where you put the thumb and the in side will be where you make a hollow hole for the fist

Also, you have to try to make it to where your parts are in the right area.
Like try to make it to where the fingers and fingernails to the front part of the template, then have the knuckles connect on the edge line and form out to be a hand. The thumb would fit into the side parts.

I think there is also a template for where the shapes go, as in fingers, thumb, palm, and such? I can't use the search function to find it.

You can try to use black areas to silhouette the shape of the finger. I've seen textures that have made middle fingers. Sorry I can't get any images.
