Display name history
Display users' name histories/changes on their public profiles, preferably in the Mini Statistics.

Maybe something like this:

Whether or not this can be an optional feature is up for discussion, but if I had to decide, I'd let people choose (via UserCP) to put such "sensitive" information out in the open, just so there's no ranting about invasion of privacy and whatnot.

I'm aware that namechange logs can be dug up in ACP, but it's useful for the regular user to be able to see others' past usernames (no real reason for users not to, anyway).
I recall seeing a suggestion similar to this one in the past, but I wasn't able to find the thread.

About username changes
Well, recently I've met a lot of new people in toribash and it turned out to be they weren't "new people", they just made nickchanges.

I started to think it would be nice to know who is who, but how?

I play a game called "osu!" and they have a forum just like we do, with a lot of people active and all that. When you go to someone's profile you can simply put your cursor in the name of the player and a window will pop showing you the old nickname, I don't know much about how hard it would be to add this to toribash, but I think it's a pretty good idea, consider adding this please.

Here's a picture of my osu!profile and how this thing I just talked about works.

Screenshot taken from my osu!profile

As you can see, you just need to stop your cursor by the nickname and that little window will show after a second.

-snip-
Thank you!

(edit: sorry lazors, didn't mean to sound like that)

Why do people get namechanges? For some it's simply because they have a shit name and they want a better one, but there are plenty of people that get namechanges to get fresh starts and wipe away bad history. It makes it easier for them to slide into the community if people aren't aware of who they are when they first meet them (e.g. Kyure/lumpysolo).

It'd be handy sure and it's not a bad idea, but the same thing could be accomplished by just asking the guy whether they've changed their name before... We know the site devs have a tricky relationship with work, so I'd imagine they'd only be implementing more necessary/impactful ideas.
like ele said. just ask the person what their previous name was. if they do then cool, you know who it is now. if they dont tell you then they clearly dont want you to know. difference is by asking the person, they at least have a choice to tell you.
im perfectly fine with people knowing what my old name was since i changed it just because it was terrible. Im pretty sure if i had to change my name because of some heat i attracted id be reluctant to tell anyone too

Like firebolty mentioned in his old thread there could be an option to make it visible or not, I believe it's easier than asking out everyone you don't know:

"hey, have you got any namechanges in the past?"

I don't really see a reason to why not implement this.

"I'd imagine they'd only be implementing more necessary/impactful ideas."

A small change is better than a huge change sometimes, of course it doesn't apply to this as it wouldn't change anything that is game-experience-related but it would be useful in my opinion, reason why I suggested.

I wouldn't want this and maybe some other's because we change to either escape a stupid name we regret, But it's also one of those things that isn't a big deal, I'm open to tell people who I was cause why not.

I support this idea.

Like Firebolty clearly stated, the option to display old names would come with the ability to turn it on and off. Also as for stating you want a fresh start that doesn't exactly work. Your name may change, but your new name is still attached to all your old post. People will figure out its you in no time really.

I for one like this option since I have old friends that all of a sudden seem to disappear, but in all actuality they just changed their name and I didn't notice.

At the end of the day implementing this would only help people, there is really no downside to this. Also don't say "the devs have enough to do already", if you keep that attitude then you won't be helping this game much. Yes the developers have stuff on their plate already to do, but if we stop suggesting ideas then the development will become stagnant. There are many many cases where the devs have dropped what they were doing because they saw an idea they liked and decided to work it into the schedule. So leave the job of deciding if the devs have enough work yet to them, they are adults capable of thought.

Make it so people can choose whether or not to display their old username.

If you want to remain unknown for a fresh start, leave it unchecked

if you don't mind people knowing who you are, leave it checked, surely will get rid of people asking "who are you?" or "do I know you?" and you wont have to re-introduce yourself to everyone again.
i just dont understand how you expect the website devs to put a lot of work into this cause you cant be bothered asking the person. if you dont think you know them then their past names are none of your business.

besides do you think admins have a long list of the past and present names of people cause if they dont then it will be down to contacting each user. even if this was implemented this way it would be better off to let it slide in and start recording the names afterwards.
it just seems like too much work for a small little feature

Like K0HTA mentioned, it's up to the staff to decide if it will be a lot of work for no reason, we're here to give them ideas, it might not be useful for you but it's useful for people like me for example. I'm currently part of the admnistration of my clan, it's good to know someone before you add them to your clan, knowing their old nicknames helps a lot in this case.

But I don't think you're going to change your mind anyway, you just can't put yourself at someone's else position apparently.

"besides do you think admins have a long list of the past and present names of people cause if they dont then it will be down to contacting each user. even if this was implemented this way it would be better off to let it slide in and start recording the names afterwards.

"

About this, I highly doubt there isn't a place where they can search for old usernames, developers usually keep track of everything going on in their websites or whatever, database stuff and etc.

And I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have to change it individually, actually I'm more than sure they wouldn't have to do this, they could write a code to display the old nickname in that little window and it would apply to everyone, but I'm not a specialist so I can't really say anything about this...

Once again, I don't see a reason to why not implement this, being a "lot of work" doesn't seem like a good reason to leave it undone, it's a small detail but it could help a lot of people, stop thinking if it's useful for YOU, think if it's useful for the others too.
