As an addition to that open entry idea, consider this - allowing old replays to be entered. This would allow each replay maker's magnum opus to be pitched against each other's, a best of the best if you will. And maybe even more than one replay allowed for entry..?

So, I'm going to be pretty much gone from the forums until the weekend, hopefully it won't go past that (might only be semi-back by then, depends on how things go).
