You might just be a little to use to black metal, death metal, deathcore, etc... I assure you that they are metal.

IMO avenged sevenfold is more like hardrock-rock (not rock'n'roll) it's close to metal

1st - Heavy Metal
2nd - Heavy Metal - Metalcore
3rd - Metalcore - Hard Rock
4th - Hard Rock
