The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins is pretty good.
Harry Potter is also a pretty decent read.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is pretty fun for an older book.
And classics, The Jungle Book is always good and Enid Blyton books.

Right now I'm reading House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski, and I'm really enjoying it.

Most stuff by Chuck Palahniuk is great too. Choke, Fight Club, etc.

Harlan Ellison still holds my title for favorite writer however.
