If you want to learn sm4sh, be a tier enthusiast. Main sheik, make everybody cry.

That gif... it just made me a tear enthusiast instead Oracle.

Okay okay in all seriousness I know you can't judge hitboxes, frames, balance, and everything else with one isolated incident but wowsers.

Sheik is top of S-tier for most people because she can 0 to death combo starting from fast, safe moves, has strong recovery, and has a strong grab.

Her only downside is she racks up percentage slowly with individual hits. But it doesn't matter because you can combo for like 20% and take them off the ledge using only forward air short hops, where you can then abuse her stupid powerful edge guarding. Her back air and up air are still amazing finishing moves.

The tiers might shake up a little bit once people start learning Ryu, and Rosalina&Luma are usually considered S-tier as well, but they're both highly technical characters. In fact, most of the other top tiers are pretty technical, Sheik is probably the most braindead one out of all of them up there.

What can you really do to improve when you don't have anyone to play against? Are there any like typical training routines and whatnot to go through?

Once again, I'm a Melee player but this is the regiment that I do daily.

5min warmup. Go into training mode and do basic movement. For melee this would include dashdancing, wavedashing, shorthopping, wavelanding on platforms. Making sure my movement is crispy and I'm doing exactly what I want.

10-20min techskill practice. Usually there are several techniques that I want to get more consistent at or learn. This (for me) includes ledge stuff, shield drops, needle stuff, and out of shield options.

~30min combo practice. I load up a low level computer and combo the shit out of it, making sure my followups become automatic. I usually do this until I get bored. I generally practice my combos mainly on top tier characters unless I notice that my punishes on other characters is lacking (usually from getting bopped by someone in tournament)

Watching top level matches is vital. Check out top players that play your character and watch what they do. I find its helpful to watch videos in slow motion to fully understand the things they're doing. If I see something I want to incorporate into my gameplay, I take a mental note and then try it out in practice, then friendlies.

Hopefully that applies to smash 4

I don't have the heart to get salty about wobbling just because IC's are such a bad character that they really need it to survive. I'm more salty about PewPewU beating DruggedFox and Westballz by gimping the shit out of them even though they were both (imo) playing way better.

I'm super hype for top 8 tonight, unfortunate that I'm not gonna get treated to any top Sheik play though.

That's very helpful! Where do you go to find all the information out about characters like frame values, how useful and situation moves are, match ups, and the advanced techs you can perform on each character?

I'm not positive with resources for smash 4 specifically, but I'm pretty sure you can find a lot of info around this site

https://www.reddit.com/r/crazyhand

Seems like it has a lot of good links to stuff, and you can participate in discussion.

Also, although I don't use it very often, http://smashboards.com/ is the classic competitive smash site and probably has a lot of great stuff

You can look up guides here. It's for all games. 64, melee, brawl, and sm4sh guides are all here.

EDIT: LARFEN YOU NINJA >:|

Also if for some reason you're not watching Genesis III, Melee top 8 is happening right now. Super hype
