It really depends on the individual DJ or house band. Also do you mean house band like a live band that plays somewhere almost exclusively or a band in the genre house, like daft punk for instance?

House band for sure. Nothing is as exhillerating as live music at a party, given that the band is good. I guess it's all about taste. I would recommend a DJ for rap-based/techno music parties, and a house band for rock/country/ect... gigs. It really depends on what music is going to be played and what the scenario is.
I have left Toribash, but will drop in occasionally on the forums and IRC. Still in Sigma.
