The community has been through some heated discussion about esports, new ranking system, mods used by hosting teams for certain events and whatnot. I do not have solution for all of those problems, however, I think that there is a certain move that would make some users happy and allow for the better 'competitive' scene without being too hard to pull off, with no devs needed in the process (matchmaking ideas, ideas for even better ranking are great and all, but needs devs to cooperate and that takes a lot of time - toribash's devbase isn't large).
I propose creating a special subforum (preferably in events) for dueling purposes. A subforum that would have certain amount of dedicated lmods that would take care of it. It would be used for posting replays and logs from duels that happen in-game, as well as looking for duel opponents via forum. Results of duels reported there would go to special sticky with all the results (in the spoilers with user's nicks, with the user with most wins at the top) - it would reset every 3 months. Obviously, noone would force you to report your duels, nor it would mean that the person with the most wins is the best dueler, merely the most active one, however, doing so would earn you some recognition, especially after beating a solid opponent (also, in case of a scam, thread could be easily moved to scam reports). Duels happening there could be both for wagers that could be stated in user's thread or for 'sportsmanship' only.
Example of possible threads below (WD tag - Wager Duel, SD - Sportsmanship duel)
Hey!
I'm looking for some to duel me for 50k in lenshu3ng. I can duel for up to 50k, I prefer best of 5 duels, although we can talk about different formats if you wish.
My GMT is +2 and I'm generally hanging around #toribash IRC channel, as well as quick aikido servers, usually in the evenings
Greetings
I'm looking for someone to play duels against in kicking mods (tk, ertkv2 mainly, I'm also open to other suggestions). Feel free to hit me up here or on following skype: XXX-XXX-XX
Additional rules, like whether there should be some limits of how many duels you can play with certain user per day/week, if there should be minimal amount of matches for a duel to be counted as valid, what mods are okay to play are up for discussion.
If the idea would work fine, some time later, small, 'user generated' bracket tourneys could happen - User would make a thread that he's looking for 7 other people to play f.ex. brushu bracket, with entry fee 5k. Lmods of the board would collect the 5k from every participant and control whether the tourney is progressing as it should. Once the victor's clear, lmod would transfer the tc to that guy (minimalizing the scamming possibility).
